When it comes to buying a phone nowadays, you essentially have two choices: Android or Apple. So, which one would you pick?
My family had always been an Android household. While each phone typically lasted 2-3 years before showing signs of lag, we never encountered any major issues. However, when it was finally time to upgrade, choosing a new Android phone felt surprisingly difficult. No matter the brand, each model seemed to be missing something. So, I bit the bullet and bought an iPhone 14. Honestly, aside from the high price tag, it’s been great.

Of course, Apple’s accessories are expensive too. Take the once highly-praised MagSafe Battery Pack, for instance—it genuinely solved power anxiety on the go. That’s why I opted for the Anker 621 Magnetic Portable Charger instead. It offers the same core functionality as the MagSafe Battery Pack, plus adds features like desktop wireless charging. Without further ado, let’s dive into my real-world experience.
Having used Anker’s wall chargers before, I recognized their consistent, minimalist packaging style, which shares a similar design sensibility to Apple’s. The larger box on the left contains the Anker magnetic power bank, and the one on the right is the included Anker USB-C to Lightning cable.
Here’s a look at the full unboxing. From left to right: the Anker magnetic power bank, a TYPE-C fast charging cable, the Lightning data cable, and, of course, a comprehensive user guide.
My first impression was that the Anker power bank is much smaller and sleeker than I imagined. The entire unit is just 12.8mm thick, and its length is a little over two-thirds that of an iPhone 14. Color-wise, it follows the iPhone 14’s palette, currently available in Lilac Purple, Misty Blue, Marble White, and Graphite Black. I chose the Lilac Purple model for my wife’s phone, and it complements the iPhone’s aesthetic perfectly.
On the top left edge of the power bank, you’ll a Type-C charging port. When plugged in, it doubles as a desktop wireless charging stand.
There’s a button on the top; a quick press displays the remaining battery level.
The Anker 621 Magnetic Portable Charger is fully compatible with Apple phones, supporting all MagSafe devices (iPhone 12 and later models). It also works with MagSafe cases, offering a wireless charging power of 7.5W.
Naturally, capacity is a key focus for any power bank. While a 10000mAh bank offers more capacity and can charge multiple devices, it also adds significant weight and bulk. The Anker magnetic power bank features a 5000mAh capacity, striking a balance between being lightweight and providing enough power for about a day’s use. For daily charging, you can simply attach it to the back of your phone without interfering with most functions.
How strong is the magnet? Just align the front of the power bank with the back of the phone, and it attaches securely. You can even pick up the phone by the power bank and give it a gentle shake without it falling off easily. This functionality is very similar to Apple’s external battery from a few years ago.
Besides charging MagSafe-compatible iPhones, this power bank can also charge other devices that support the Qi wireless charging standard. Placed flat on a desk, it becomes a wireless charging stand. I tested it with an Android phone and wireless earbuds, and it worked flawlessly with both.
The Anker Magnetic Portable Charger is compact, user-friendly, and features 7.5W wireless charging and a built-in phone stand. It offers better value for money compared to Apple’s original MagSafe Battery Pack—costing less than half the price while providing more features. If you’re an iPhone user, this Anker wireless power bank is absolutely a top-choice essential!
